# Summary Experiences at this dealership vary significantly, with some customers praising individual salespeople like Kay, Jeremy, and Paul for their attentive and pressure-free service, while others report serious issues with used vehicle quality and service department responsiveness, including vehicles sold with undisclosed mechanical problems and unresolved diagnostic concerns. The stark contrast between five-star reviews highlighting exceptional customer service and one-star reviews citing poor vehicle preparation and unresponsive follow-up suggests inconsistent quality across departments and staff.
I purchased a used 2013 Prius from Fred Anderson Sanford in September of 2025. I had just totaled a 2016 Prius I purchased new from Fred Anderson Raleigh and trusted I could rely on the Fred Anderson name to buy a good and reliable used car from, given the positive experience I had with the 2016 Prius. I assumed they would have the resources to diagnose any issues, make any repairs, touch up paint, fix any dents, replace any parts, and do a detailed clean of any used car they purchased, especially a used 2013 Toyota Prius, before selling it to a customer. I clearly assumed incorrectly and now know why used car dealers can become successful as independent used car salespeople, especially if they take time and put care into detailing a used car to make it look and function as new as possible before selling it to someone, which would be the right thing to do. When I went to pick up the car, I noticed the chipping and fading paint, stained carpets, and missing car mats. I asked the sales representative who sold me the car if they had any spare mats they could give be, but he said no. Shortly after purchasing the car, the low tire pressure sensor went bad and is now always on. I discovered the back bumper was broken and not able to fully attach to the frame. There is massive debris from the original owner in the spare tire compartment. The center display screen went grey and went static shortly after purchase. The passenger side interior panel is broken. The rear passenger side window cannot be controlled from the driver master control buttons. As of recently, system errors indicating the hybrid battery is failing started appearing. I emailed the sales representative about all these issues shortly after purchase and got no response. I asked if they made sure the hybrid battery was good before purchasing, which they confirmed, but obviously that was incorrect. Moral of the story, don’t buy used cars from Fred Anderson Sanford. Find a local independent used car dealer who actually cares about their customers and the quality of the used car they sell.
Best dealership experience I've ever had. I worked wirh Jermey Poe who had the vehicle ready for me to look at an test drive before I even arrived, didn't put any pressure on me through the entire process and worked with me the entire time to land the deal that was best for me. Definitely recommend if you go here to ask for Jermey
LED Headlight bulbs...wrong diagnosis. Took my 2003 toyota camry in because tail lamp fuse kept blowing immediately when turn stalk to to parking lights. This issue meant no driving at night b/c no tail lights. They got me in quickly, said there would be a $187 diagnostic fee which was much lower than a local shop. Cool. Then, I got a video diagnosis stating I should replace the LED headlight bulbs back to halogen. I suggested they simply unplug the bulbs if they thought that was the root cause and see if issue still persists. They did unplug them for a fee and still suggested that I replace them. Not only was I not satisfied that they didn't continue with the troubleshooting, but now I was very concerned that this was going to get expensive because I didn't agree with how they were proceeding. I was charged $220, yeah there was any extra fee for unplugging the headlight bulbs. And doing a bit more research on my own after downloading the factory wiring diagram, the solution to my problem was right there in the diagram... and it was never related to the LED headlight bulbs. I called the Service Department to see if a manager could review my case and refund me my out of pocket expense. Never got a call back from them, but I did start to get calls for a review and solicitation to trade in for a new car!
If you're looking for a car-buying experience that actually feels good, ask for Kay. I recently purchased my 2026 Toyota 4Runner and she made the entire process feel completely effortless from start to finish. From the moment I started looking at the vehicle, Kay was attentive, knowledgeable, and never once made me feel pressured. She took the time to walk me through everything I needed to know, answered every question I had, and guided me through each step of the process with patience and genuine care. Before I knew it, she was walking me out the door and handing me the keys to my new 4Runner — and I couldn't have been happier. Buying a car can be stressful, but Kay turned it into one of the most pleasant purchasing experiences I've ever had. She's a true professional who clearly loves what she does, and it shows. I'd recommend her to anyone without hesitation. Thank you, Kay!
We had a great experience buying our car from Fred Anderson Toyota of Sanford. Paul was excellent throughout the process, very knowledgeable and straightforward. He helped us get the order placed and made sure everything was handled exactly the way we wanted. Their sales manager, Bernard, was also great, working the deal quickly to save us time. When we came in for pickup, Paul wasn’t available, but Dustin stepped in and completed the delivery seamlessly. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and made the final handoff smooth and stress-free. Big thanks to Paul, Bernard, and Dustin for taking such good care of us. Highly recommend!
