# Summary Shoppers report mixed experiences, with individual salespeople frequently praised for professionalism and dedication, while management and service practices draw criticism for lack of transparency regarding hidden fees, poor vehicle condition oversight, and questionable business decisions that disregard confirmed agreements. Service complaints center on undisclosed charges and slow resolution times, while sales complaints highlight management's failure to honor commitments and alleged prioritization of profit over customer commitments.
I purchased a used Acura RDX from the Herrin Gear Chevrolet. I live in Central New York, and had planned to have it shipped. The paperwork the dealership sent me to sign to take ownership was wrong on multiple occasions, so I had to fly down to go get the vehicle and drive it home. Upon inspecting the vehicle it was discovered that the front tires were in very poor condition. I asked that they replace the tires, to which the sales manager, Trey, adamantly refused. When I pointed out that even in MS these could get me a ticket for being unsafe he told me “riding your horse drunk is punishable by death here, it ain’t gonna happen”. Then he was kind enough to offer me a whopping $250 back to replace my tires. This gentleman was one of the most smug and condescending people I’ve ever dealt with in a dealership. He immediately assumed I was from New York City because I’m from New York State, and treated me like I was some dummy. If you’re looking to travel to buy a vehicle here, I’d pass. They would have shipped this thing to me without thinking twice about obvious deficiencies, and then take zero responsibility once it arrived. Had I not of had to spend my time and money to fly down and get it personally I would have got a heck of a surprise when it arrived here on a truck weeks later. I will however say this. My salesman, Seth, was terrific. He went above and beyond for the sale, and went to bat for me for the tire dilemma. It was appreciated.
I brought my 2015 Silverado 6.2L in for the advertised $84.95 oil change and tire rotation special. The service itself was completed properly. However, a mandatory $11.29 “shop supplies” charge was added that was not disclosed in the advertisement. The ad disclosed tax and oil over 8 quarts, but not a required additional fee. An advertised price of $84.95 reasonably suggests an out-the-door total around $90–$92 with tax. My final invoice was $106.21. After discussing this with management, I was informed the shop supplies charge is mandatory and cannot be removed. If this fee is routinely applied, it should be clearly disclosed in the advertised offer so customers understand the full cost before authorizing service. Transparent pricing is important, especially when promotions are used to attract customers. This type of pricing practice should be reviewed for clarity and consistency.
I purchased a 2024 Chevy Malibu in February of 2026. The overall car is great, but the experience after and the charges that’s added and not explained sucks. After having the car 2 weeks the engine light pops on, took them forever to get the car and fix the problem. 2 weeks after that the car needed an oil change so I called and was basically told I had to pay out of pocket for that. When I haven’t had the car a whole month.. I was offered and extended warranty plan which I agreed to but they didn’t explain that it was 2500 extra dollars and would be added to the loan being financed for the car which would make me have to pay or 7000 dollars
Management failure despite a hardworking salesperson I began discussions with this Chevrolet dealership on December 13 regarding a specific vehicle. Over nearly two weeks, the salesman was responsive, professional, and clearly worked hard to earn my business. We ultimately agreed on pricing this past Tuesday, and I secured financing directly through the dealership, choosing not to go through my own bank to simplify the process on their end. We confirmed an appointment for today, December 27. As recently as yesterday at 3:00 PM, the salesman contacted me to verify my insurance, since I am an out-of-state buyer—clear confirmation that the deal was active and moving forward. Then, at 7:00 PM the same evening, I was informed that management had sold the vehicle. This was not a salesperson issue. This was a management decision that disregarded an active agreement with agreed pricing, confirmed financing, verified insurance, and a scheduled appointment less than 24 hours away. The attached text messages document the full timeline. The salesman did his job well. Unfortunately, management ensured that his efforts—and my time—were completely wasted. If this is how management handles committed buyers with documented agreements, imagine how easily they’ll walk away once they already have your money.
Today is 01/14/2026. Its been a week since I purchased my new car. Travontae Crosby aka TJ was exceptional! He went above and beyond to help me find the car I wanted, he was able to talk the finance company down for a lower down payment and he has really good energy and customer service. He deserves a raise!!! Thank you Herrin Gear for all that you do for the community, and a special shoutout to TJ for being a good asset to this company.
