# Summary The dealership receives consistently high praise for its sales team, with customers highlighting exceptional service, transparency, and genuine care from staff members like Erick and Aaron who listen to customer needs and create stress-free buying experiences at competitive prices. However, the service department has drawn severe criticism for careless work, including failing to reinstall an oil cap during routine maintenance and refusing to inspect warranty work without charge, with customers reporting a lack of accountability for substandard repairs.
I had such an easy and enjoyable experience at Toyota of Palo Alto. Erick is a genuinely kind person who truly cares about his customers. He really listened to my needs and my budget, and went above and beyond anything I’ve ever experienced at a dealership. I had been shopping around for a week all over the Bay Area, and honestly, I was starting to feel disappointed. The process didn’t feel pleasant anywhere else, and I didn’t meet anyone who made me feel like they truly cared—until I came here. From the moment I arrived, Erick made it easy to feel confident that I was in good hands. The entire experience was smooth, transparent, and stress-free. I highly recommend buying a car here. Their prices are very reasonable, and it’s clear they genuinely want to make their customers happy.
I don't say this lightly: avoid this place for service. After nearly 15 years as a customer, I paid $4-5k to fully replace a leaking sunroof on my Sienna. Not a repair -- a full replacement. Two and a half years later, it's leaking again in the exact same spot. When I called, they refused to inspect it / look at the issue without charging me. Service manager Jon Hausler told me "a lot can happen in 2.5 years" and "why do you expect free service." As a business owner myself, this is insanity unless you don't stand by your work. A sunroof shouldn't fail again in 2.5 years after a full replacement. Looking at your own work costs you minimal, esp to 15 years of coming here. That's not a customer asking for a handout -- that's basic accountability for work you performed. They lost a 15-year customer over a free inspection. That tells you everything about how they value your business once they have your money. Go somewhere that stands behind their work.
Extremely sloppy and incompetent work performed by the service department at Magnussen Toyota of Palo Alto. I brought in my virtually brand new Tacoma for its complimentary 10,000-mile service under ToyotaCare. Upon pickup, I noticed a strong burning oil smell and saw white smoke coming from the engine bay. I pulled over immediately and discovered oil splattered throughout the entire engine compartment. The technician had failed to reinstall the oil cap. I returned to the dealership right away, but because it was closing time (they took 8 hours to complete an oil change), no one was able to fix the issue. There was no service manager available to explain how such a careless mistake happened, and I was forced to leave my vehicle and take a loaner home. This was not a minor oversight-had I not noticed it shortly after leaving, this could have caused serious engine damage or even a fire. If this is the level of attention to detail they give a routine service on a brand new vehicle, I would strongly caution anyone against trusting them with their car. I saw another review describe how they forgot to tighten his lug nuts and his wheel fell off while driving. That checks out. On top of all that, the Service Director, John Hausler, was extremely condescending and rude. Double-check everything if you do come here, or better yet, take your vehicle somewhere else.
I want to recognize Aaron Novik for his sincere effort and professionalism while helping our family look for a Toyota SUV suitable for an elderly woman with limited mobility. He truly tried to help—carefully discussing accessibility needs, ease of entry and exit, comfort, and safety. He spent real time with us, explained options clearly, and never pressured us. Unfortunately, the exact vehicle we needed wasn’t available at the time, and by sheer luck another dealership received the right SUV first. If the vehicle had been available, we absolutely would have purchased from him. His honesty, patience, and genuine care stood out, and we would not hesitate to work with him again or recommend him to others.
We just bought a Camry from Toyota Of Palo Alto and honestly Erik made the whole experience. Super patient, answered all our questions, and never made us feel rushed at all. He had good energy the whole time, cracking jokes and just making everything feel easy. When we first walked in, he offered us coffee and snacks and was like “we’re gonna go over a lot of options,” which already made it feel chill and not stressful. What really stood out was how good he was with communication. He was replying to my calls and texts super fast, so feel free to ask for his personal phone number. We were like 2.5 hours away, but after talking to him and going over everything, I trusted the deal and just pulled up — and everything was exactly how he said. He also worked with us on the price which I appreciated. Overall the whole place had good energy, but Erik really stood out. If you go there, ask for him.
