My Used Car Experience at McDonough Hyundai – Buyers Should Read This I recently purchased a used Genesis G80 from McDonough Hyundai. This was a real purchase, I paid for the vehicle and completed the full financing and paperwork with the dealership. While the initial sales interaction felt friendly, several issues during and after the transaction made the experience frustrating and disappointing. If you are considering buying a used car from McDonough Hyundai, I strongly recommend verifying every detail carefully before signing anything. Here are the specific issues I experienced: 1. Open Recall Handling The vehicle had an open recall. Instead of fixing the recall before delivery, the dealership asked me to sign a document stating that I declined the recall repair. I offered a simple solution: I would pay for the vehicle and leave it at the dealership so they could complete the recall repair before I took delivery. They refused this request but still wanted me to sign the form saying I declined the repair. That did not feel transparent. 2. Financing Terms Changed Late Before starting the paperwork, I clearly told them I planned to put $25,000 down and finance the remaining balance. We went through the entire sales process, and only when we reached the finance manager was I told they would only allow $5,000 as a down payment and required the rest to be financed. This was never communicated earlier and felt like a tactic to increase financing revenue. 3. Non-Working Second Key The vehicle was delivered with two keys. After getting home, I discovered the second key does not work at all. When I contacted the dealership, the sales manager Alex(?) told me he could not help and that the key might belong to another vehicle. Instead of offering a solution, the discussion quickly shifted to legal technicalities about used vehicle sales. Positive Note To be fair, my salesperson Xavier was professional and tried to help find reasonable solutions during the process. I appreciate his effort even though the dealership ultimately did not resolve these issues. Final Thoughts The showroom and online presence of McDonough Hyundai present a polished image, but my experience after the sale did not reflect the level of transparency and customer care I expected. If you plan to buy a used car from McDonough Hyundai, make sure every detail is clearly documented before completing the purchase.
