We bought a 2019 Honda civic from Drew and couldn’t have had a better experience. They assisted us getting the right loan and made sure the car was fully serviced, changing out the tires, replacing the brakes and windshield wipers. We are all around pleased with the experience.
This review applies to the institution of Smithfield Auto Center and its owner. The salesman that put the deal together for me - Shannon- is amazing. He is an honest guy and a great salesman. Here is my experience. I saw a car on FB marketplace. Within my budget and the make/model I was looking for. Test drove. Got approved for the loan. Paid $3,000 down payment. Drove it home. A few days after the sale, I get a call from the Lender. They did not like that I insured the car under my parents policy (on which I’m a driver). They wanted me to insure it under my name - problem is, I have points from a wreck from last year and I did not take into account how much the premiums would be. Obviously, that’s on me. I determined if I paid what they were quoting me I’d be one bad week away from bankruptcy. So I turned the car in. I felt bad about going back on my word, so I had the car professionally detailed, tires rotated, and a full tank of gas. When it was time to do so, the owner (whom I don’t even know his name) came out and told me: “You can’t pay the insurance? How is that my problem?” Very aggressive demeanor, and kept asking me to come up with a “solution”. I knew he was shaking me down for money, so I offered to let them keep $500 from the down payment. To which he agreed to quickly and gave me a check. My problem is how he treated me. I know it’s my fault for not doing my budget right. But he could have handled the situation with more elegance, and respect. I would have agreed to give him money if he had said “I’m sorry the deal didn’t work out, but there are costs that come with restocking the vehicle like temporary tags, detailing fees…”. He didn’t even look me in the eye, he was too busy looking at his phone. He treated me with no respect and no courtesy. Do you think I will be inclined to ever buy from here again? My plan is to save and buy the car outright. Once that happens, do you think I’d buy it here? Would I ever let someone close to me buy from here? The answer to all of these, is no. I understand as owner of a business he has the right to treat me however he wishes, as I have the right to write this review to warn the good people of Smithfield, and the triangle, that the owner of Smithfield Auto Center is a greedy, disrespectful, and shortsighted man, who does not care an ounce for his customers. Save yourself the trouble. Buy elsewhere. As for my man Shannon, I hope he gets a better job. I know he’d make bands in a place where people are treated with dignity because he is a great salesman.
I bought my 2019 Nissan Altima platinum there about a month ago and they’re pretty cool, the girl Laura made the entire process painlessly simple and easy, I’ve already put 5k miles on the car and no issues at all. I’d recommend them since they’re really kind and understanding.
I had a great buying experience when I purchased my last vehicle. Laura made the process easy and fast. I had a tough time making it to the dealership because of my work schedule but when I made my second visit, I had ample time to test drive and check out the car and I'm very satisfied with my choice. Laura didn't pressure me to make a purchase like some dealers do but she was to the point on everything I needed to know. She offered me a good deal on the price which made my decision easier. There are a lot of nice vehicles on their lot and I will keep them in mind if I decide to purchase again. Thank you again Laura.
