Solution Nissan Chateauguay

Three years ago my wife and I had just arrived in Canada. Of course, we were not yet familiar with how things worked. We purchased a 2017 Nissan Rogue for about $20,000 and financed the rest after making a significant down payment. During the purchase, the salesperson insisted that we take an extended warranty of about $4,000. We were very hesitant, but he clearly told us that if the warranty was not used, the money would be reimbursed at the end of the financing. He even added that they do not provide documents for this and that it was simply “something they do for their customers.” That statement is the only reason we agreed to purchase the warranty. Three years later, after the car is fully paid off, we contacted the dealership to recover the $4,000. Suddenly, the story completely changed. We were told: • that we have no proof the salesperson told us this • that we should have requested the refund two months before the warranty expired Of course, none of this was ever explained to us at the time of purchase. This looks like a cheap sales trick: make a verbal promise to close the deal, then later deny responsibility when the customer has no written proof. What makes this even more disappointing is that this happened when we were newcomers who did not yet fully understand how the system worked and were clearly taken advantage of in that situation. We are now seriously considering filing a complaint with the Office de la protection du consommateur so that these practices can be formally reviewed.
